Meow-ma Mia! Chris Pratt to Voice Garfield
From voicing an Italian plumber to voicing a grumpy, lasagna-loving cat, Chris Pratt has come full circle in terms of being the subject of decidedly dodgy casting choices.
Here’s the scoop: on Monday, 1 November, media outlets reported that the 42-year-old actor will be voicing Garfield – an iconic comic strip character created by Jim Davis – in an upcoming animated film.
Details around the flick are scarce, but so far we know that it will be helmed by Alcon Entertainment, David Reynolds will write the script, and Davis will serve as the executive producer.
Then there’s the fact that Pratt is playing the eponymous cat, which comes two months after it was announced that he would voice the equally-iconic video game character, Mario, in the upcoming “Super Mario Bros.” film.
Needless to say, fans on Twitter had a lot to say, with one tweep remarking: “chris pratt is erasing every animated italian. first mario, now garfield, who’s next?? has this man ever eaten a lasagna [sic]?”
Meanwhile, other tweeps had a field day imagining who Pratt would be cast as next, ranging from Shadow in the “Sonic” game franchise, to playing various anime characters such as Hatsune Miku and Goku.
Only time will tell if Pratt will do Garfield – and Mario – justice once these films are released.
